Resurrection Eggs

Resurrection Eggs (aka Easter Eggs) have pretty pastel colors that are easily achieved with 3 simple ingredients (not counting the eggs).

The name Resurrection Eggs honors the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Excellent side dish for the first Sunday in April, a traditional Christian holiday formally called Easter Sunday.

These colorful beauties add a splash of lovely color to the breakfast, lunch or dinner table.

Consider using them for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt that children (and some adults enjoy).

CREATIVE TIP:  DESIGN WITH RUBBER BANDS

Use rubber bands create a pretty design on pastel-colored eggs.

Simply fold a long (thin) rubber band in half and wrap it around the egg.

Wrapping an egg with a small (thick) rubber band will create a single thick white line around the pastel-colored egg.

Resurrection Eggs
I folded a long thin rubber band in half before wrapping it around the egg. The second egg is wrapped once with a small/thick rubber band.

Let the eggs sit in the bowl of colored water for 10 minutes.

Use a slotted spoon to remove each egg from the bowl of colored water.

Drain colored eggs on a mesh (or wire) rack with paper towels underneath to catch the drips.

After the eggs have cooled, remove the rubber bands.

HE IS Risen (Matthew 28:1-6 (KJV)

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Prep Time10 minutes mins
Total Time25 minutes mins
Servings: 12 eggs

Ingredients

  • 4 cups boiling hot water
  • 4 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
  • 4 tubes gel food color blue, green, red and yellow
  • 12 small or medium hard boiled eggs

Instructions

  • The following "recipe" is for coloring 12 hard boiled eggs with 4 gel food colors. Basically, it's four eggs for EACH color. If preferred, color 12 eggs one color.
  • The gel color is easily removed from finger tips by thoroughly washing hands with soap and water. A great option is to wear latex gloves to protect finger tips from food coloring.
  • To create a lovely design, wrap preferred number of hard boiled eggs with large and/or small rubber bands. Set aside.
  • Pour 1 cup of boiling hot water into a medium heatproof bowl.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar.
  • Add 1 teaspoon (or more if desired) of ONE gel food color to the bowl of hot water. Mix several food colors together if feeling creative.
  • Stir until water is an even color.
  • Place 4 hard boiled eggs into the bowl of colored water. If eggs are not covered with water, add more HOT water and more gel food color. Let stand 10 minutes. Repeat this process until all eggs have been colored.
  • REPEAT each step for EACH gel food color.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove each egg from the colored water. Carefully place each egg on a wire (or mesh) wrack with paper towels underneath to catch the drips.
  • Eggs will dry in about 10 to 15 minutes and will have a soft pastel color. Carefully remove rubber bands (if using).
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to use.
