Signs of water damage…
A sure sign of water damage is a thin crack that looks like a line drawn with a black writing pen. It’s visible on the ceiling of rooms, in the hallway, and along the side of doors in the hallway.
A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
On July 1, 2024, the ceiling in my aunt’s living room, crashed to the floor with a LOUD BOOM, dumping a LOT of dry and we insulation. The heavy ceiling fan crashed on top of the coffee table. The glass shattered. Thankfully, no one was hurt!
About two months prior, a long thin crack that looked like it was drawn with a thin black pen, appeared in the ceiling of the living room, hallway and both bathrooms. Soon, white flakes of plaster would quietly fall from the ceiling to the floor. The ceiling began to form the shape of a ball and dropped lower. Scary! The water pressure had reached a dangerous level.
Repairs Completed: Fresh paint, new ceiling fan and furniture
HOMEOWNER’S INSURANCE IS PRICELESS PROTECTION
Long story short, I contacted a reputable contractor who had repaired two different leaks over a 3-year period. Also contacted the insurance company to make a claim. Thankfully, homeowner’s insurance covered everything.
A day before the contractor’s showed up to do repairs, my aunt and I moved into a classy hotel paid for by the insurance company.
Homeowner’s insurance is a necessity for anyone with or without a mortgage (paid for).
Our home (built in 1986) has a beautiful new roof, interior paint, new ceiling fan, and new living room furniture. It looks AMAZING.
MOLD REMEDIATION
Next, reputable company to do mold remediation. Must have home checked for black mold which can form after extensive water damage. Stay tuned for the update.
