SAFELY HANDLE A CAST IRON SKILLET
The handle of a cast iron skillet gets VERY hot when cooking.
Before turning on the heat, cover the handle with a thick cloth or thick potholder to prevent accidentally burning your hand.
When I’m cooking, I naturally want to hold the handle while cooking.
Yes, I have burned my hands a few times and didn’t like the feeling.
Now, I make sure the handle is covered before I turn on the heat.
Never leave the stove while cooking. Always pay close attention to make sure the flames never touch the covered handle. Stay alert while cooking in the kitchen
When through cooking, turn the heat off and keep the handle covered until cool enough to safely handle.
