The following "recipe" is for coloring 12 hard boiled eggs with 4 gel food colors. Basically, it's four eggs for EACH color. If preferred, color 12 eggs one color.
The gel color is easily removed from finger tips by thoroughly washing hands with soap and water. A great option is to wear latex gloves to protect finger tips from food coloring.
To create a lovely design, wrap preferred number of hard boiled eggs with large and/or small rubber bands. Set aside.
Pour 1 cup of boiling hot water into a medium heatproof bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar.
Add 1 teaspoon (or more if desired) of ONE gel food color to the bowl of hot water. Mix several food colors together if feeling creative.
Stir until water is an even color.
Place 4 hard boiled eggs into the bowl of colored water. If eggs are not covered with water, add more HOT water and more gel food color. Let stand 10 minutes. Repeat this process until all eggs have been colored.
REPEAT each step for EACH gel food color.
Use a slotted spoon to remove each egg from the colored water. Carefully place each egg on a wire (or mesh) wrack with paper towels underneath to catch the drips.
Eggs will dry in about 10 to 15 minutes and will have a soft pastel color. Carefully remove rubber bands (if using).
Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to use.
