This sandwich is my twist on the classic chili dog and corn dog.ย  It contains hotdogs, chili and shredded cheddar cheese sandwiched between two cornbread flapjacks.ย ย

ย

Serve as a main for lunch or dinner.ย  Pairs well with coleslaw, fries and potato chips.

I suggest making the flapjacks with my Stove Top Cornbread recipe. ย  It’s one of the top 5 recipes on my blog.ย

Stove Top Cornbread is cornbread batter fried in a skillet on top of the stove.ย  The flapjacks look and taste “almost” like pancakes.ย  The cornmeal taste is light and tasty.

Use chicken, beef or turkey wieners will work in this recipe.ย

Hotdog Sauce

I always boil wieners in water over high heat for 10 minutes before grilling or frying.ย  Reduces sodium and they taste better.ย

Fried or grilled wieners that are charred on the outside have more flavor in my opinion.

The bread-enclosed famous food known as a sandwich is named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich (1718-1792), who is said to have asked his servant to bring him meat stuffed between two slices of bread so he would be less inconvenienced while hunting, playing cards, etc.

Apparently, his friends began asking for โ€˜the same as Sandwich.โ€™ The name stuck.

The first written record of the word โ€œsandwichโ€ appeared in Edward Gibbons (1737-1794), English author, scholar, and historian, journal on November 24, 1762.

The most popular sandwich in America (not counting the hamburger) is the turkey sandwich, followed by the ham sandwich.ย ย  If hamburgers are included, sandwiches account for nearly half of all limited-service restaurant sales.

Sixty percent of sandwiches sold globally are actually hamburgers.

Cornbread Chili Dog Sandwich pairs well with homemdade coleslaw, baked fries, onion rings, potato chips, a green salad,ย  and corn on the cob.

Serve as a side or main.ย  Eat with a fork or a spoon.

Consider Easy Apple Pie for dessert.ย  It is very easy to make.ย  No top crust.ย  Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy the recipe!
