Parmesan Green Beans in Skillet

 

Parmesan Green Beans are savory, cheesy and hearty.  

This robust side dish is easy to make with a few simple ingredients.

 

Pairs well with my Roasted Spatchcock Chicken and Roasted Spatchcock Herb Chicken.

Delighted to share the ingredients I purchased and used to make this delicious side dish.  All comments are my own.

 

THE INGREDIENTS

Salt, coarse ground black pepper, 2 tablespoons salted butter (or use unsalted), and Parmesan cheese.  Continued below.

HEAVY CREAM SUBSTITUTE

This recipe calls for 1/2 cup of heavy cream (not pictured).  An excellent substitute is Half ‘n Half. 

 

GROUND NUTMEG

Add 1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg to enhance the flavor.

THE GREEN BEANS

Use fresh, frozen or canned green beans to make this delicious side dish.

HOW TO PREPARE CANNED GREEN BEANS 

Use two cans of cut green beans.  Each can is 14.5 ounces.

Open and drain sodium water. 

Pour drained green beans into a colander and rinse thoroughly. 

Rinsed taste MUCH better in my opinion.

HOW TO MAKE THE CREAMY SAUCE

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Add heavy cream, 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan Cheese and ground nutmeg.

Whisk together until well combined.

Use a large spoon to toss until evenly coated. Season with preferred amounts of salt and coarse ground black pepper. Return mixture to a simmer for 2 minutes. 

Remove from heat.  Transfer to a serving dish if desired.

 

SERVING SUGGESTION

Parmesan Green Beans are best when served hot.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound fresh green beans Trimmed, snapped and rinsed.
  • water Use to boil green beans.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Salted or unsalted.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Or use Half 'n Half.
  • 5 tablespoons Parmesan Cheese, grated divided
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg Or use garlic powder.
  • salt to taste
  • coarse ground black pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Pour water into large pot until half full. Bring to boil.
  2. FRESH GREEN BEANS (TRIMMED, SNAPPED, RINSED): Add to large pot. If necessary, add more water to cover them. Sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Return to boil. Cook uncovered until they are bright green and semi-tender. Boil longer if you prefer softer. Drain and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add heavy cream 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan Cheese and nutmeg into the melted butter. Whisk together until well combined.
  4. Simmer over medium heat. Drop drained green beans into the mixture.
  5. Use a large spoon to toss until evenly coated. Season with preferred amounts of salt and coarse ground black pepper. Return mixture to a simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Turn heat off. Pour green beans into a serving dish. Sprinkle top with remaining 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan Cheese.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

VARIATION:  CANNED GREEN BEANS
Open two cans of cut green beans.  Each can is14.5 ounces.
Drain sodium water. 
Pour drained green beans into a colander and rinse thoroughly.  Set aside. 
Fill large pot until 1/2 full.  Pour in prepared beans.  If necessary, add more water to cover.  DO NOT ADD SALT.  Simmer to desired tenderness.  Watch closely to prevent burning.
When green beans reach desired tenderness, add to cheese sauce as instructed.
