Easy French Toast Sticks
Ingredients
Method
- Stack together 4 slices of bread. Cut into 3 strips. Will have 12 total strips. Set aside.
- In medium bowl, combine beaten eggs, heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, black pepper (if using) and granulated sugar (if using). Stir with fork until evenly combined. Set aside.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (or margarine) in a 9" skillet over low medium heat. Use a spatula to spread melted butter evenly over skillet.
- While butter is melting, quickly dip SIX "sticks" into egg mixture. Do not soak because bread might fall apart.
- Remove wet sticks from egg mixture with spatula and place in skillet with hot melted butter.
- Cook 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip over again and cook 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Place on plate or platter.
- Melt last tablespoon of unsalted butter (or margarine) in skillet. Repeat process for last SIX sticks.
- Serve hot. Drizzle with honey, maple syrup or favorite buttery pancake syrup.
