Strawberry Sauce

Strawberry Sauce is a chunky condiment with a mouthwatering tangy taste. Easy to make with fresh strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice.  Pairs well with vanilla butter cake, cream cheese pound cake, and vanilla ice cream.

Equipment

  • 1 paring knife
  • 1 medium saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries Rinsed, dried and hulled.
  • 3-1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar Divided
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice Divided

Instructions

  • Place sliced strawberries in a medium saucepan.
  • Add 1-1/2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice.
  • Simmer over medium heat. Strawberries will produce water. Stir constantly.
  • After 10 minutes, taste a cooled sample. If desired, add remaining 1-1/2 tablespoons (or less) of granulated sugar and 1/2 tablespoon (or less) of fresh lemon juice.
  • Simmer another 10 minutes. Taste a cooled sample. Add a pinch of sugar or a drop or two of fresh lemon juice until satisfied with the taste.
  • Remove from heat. Sauce will be slightly watery. It will thicken as it cools.
  • Store in a container with an airtight lid. Keeps well in the fridge.
